In his leisure time Christian loves to go mountaineering, rock climbing, and taking videos of his adventures. He has probably seen more of the region around Munich than most of our local students in the short time that he lives here. Christian originally comes from La Paz in Bolivia, where he completed his Bachelor in Commercial Engineering with a major in Business Administration.
In this context, he specialized in procurement, purchases, international commerce, costing, importation, and transportation/logistics. Our coffee lover Christian is also interested in data mining and analysis, online marketing, and of course startups and entrepreneurship.
Find out what brought him to our Master program and what he thinks about his studies after semester 1!
Christian, what was your first business idea and how did it go?
Christian: When I was 10 years old I started to sell popcorn at my house door with my sister. We had a total of 3 small bags of popcorn sold to our neighbors. After a long afternoon trying to sell more my grandfather “bought” the rest of the pop corn from us.
Among other ways to make some money, there was mowing the yard, washing the car and even make a “circus” with my cousins to perform a show charging an entrance fee to my family members.
How did you first get interested in studying BEDTM?
Christian: To put some context my wife and I moved to Munich because of a job offer to her. We wanted to go somewhere else other than Bolivia and the USA so we decided to try Germany. That is how I found this University and its program.
I have choose this program because I love technology, challenges, innovation and I don’t like the routine. This mean that the entrepreneurial world combined with the use of technologies puts in the same place some of the things I really like and takes away the routine of doing a specific task every day.
Imagine you are writing to yourself back before you began your Master studies and tell yourself what you wish someone had told you at the time.
Christian: Everything will be fine and it is just another challenge and life experience that you will succeed as usual.
What do you like about attending the lectures?
Christian: The atmosphere and the company of my colleagues. I appreciate how friendly the professors are, plus getting a better understanding of the new subjects.
Describe the experience within your Master studies that has made the strongest impression on you: a big success, a challenging project – anything that made a big impact.
Christian: I think the assignments, I am not used to have to make an investigation and write an extended report with many other team members. It is challenging to work together, but more minds can bring more and better ideas than only one.
What does a normal study day look like for you?
Christian: Coffee, think hard, coffee, enjoy the company of the classmates, more coffee, learn, learn, study, more coffee and have fun.
Apart from professional knowledge, did you learn anything during your Master studies that you did not expect before?
Christian: For sure the existence of digital tools in order to perform jobs and tasks better, but also, the ability to interact with people of different nationalities to find ways to understand each others and bring solutions and new ideas to many situations.
Please tell us about a project you enjoyed working on!
Christian: All of them have had a very enjoyable component, but one that was very interesting was a project about the impact of a mineral called “coltan” that is used to produce technological devices. This mineral have a big impact from the extraction to the disposal in environmental and societal levels.
How are your Master studies of BEDTM helping you to get closer to your career goals?
Christian: Giving me the tools and knowledge to apply them to my own business models and projects. Building the confidence on the theoretical and practical skills that I require to seek and achieve my goals. And finally, building the confidence and networks that every business needs to succeed.
Anything else you would like to add?
Christian: Coffee and climb on!
